The Grande Prairie Regional Sport Connection has released a calendar to help parents and sports enthusiasts alike register for different sports in the area. Executive Director Karna Germsheid says the calendar is something people have been asking for over the years.
“So it is an opportunity for families in the region to look at the registration dates, and it will just show the month, not an actual date, but then they’ll go straight to the sports organization and understand and know when to start watching for the actual registration date.”
She explains in the past people have called to register only to learn they have missed registration or the sport they want is full. The idea of the calendar is to help people avoid these situations in the future. Germsheid says that another benefit of the calendar is that it gives people the opportunity to try something new.
“It’s everything from martial arts, to hockey, to soccer, to dance, to you name it. 80 different sports are being played in the region and there are several different organizations for some of the sports, so it is going to be the whole gauntlet.”
The calendar is not just for youth organizations, but adults ones as well. As well if there is a sports organization that is not currently on the calendar but would like to be, they can contact the Regional Sport Connection and be added for free.
