City offering smorgasbord of sports to try out

From October 29th to November 12th the City of Grande Prairie is holding its Sport Sampler Days event. The event is free to those 16 and older who want to try something new.

More than a dozen different activities will be held at the Community Knowledge Campus Eastlink Centre and Twin Ice Arenas. CKC General Manager Angela Redding says that the great part about this event is it creates a safe and non-intimidating fun event.

“Where people may not register on their own, but knowing that there is going to be other like-minded individuals who will be signing up and attending that class will put everyone on the same level.”

Redding adds that the two-week event would not be possible if it wasn’t for the CKC user groups, clubs, and members who are participating and sharing their respective sports. Redding says that one of the sports that people are excited about is pickleball.

“Anyone I have talked to, who has tried pickleball tells me that it is very very interactive, fun, and addicting. So that is a very fast-growing sport.”

Each activity can accommodate between six to twenty participants, with there being no activities on October 30th and November 11th. Pre-registration is required to participate.

At the end of the two weeks, a large registration event will be held for those who would like to sign up for the different groups, clubs, and memberships.
