September unemployment rate rises slightly in western Alberta

The unemployment rate in the region that includes Grande Prairie rose slightly in the month of September. According to Statistics Canada, the unemployment rate for the Banff – Jasper – Rocky Mountain House and Athabasca – Grande Prairie – Peace River region was 5.7 per cent last month, up from 5.4 per cent in August.

The western Alberta rate remains the fourth lowest of all regions in the, above Edmonton at 5.3 per cent and Lethbridge – Medicine Hat at 3.3 per cent, and Red Deer at 4.4 per cent.

Overall, Alberta’s unemployment rate ticked up in September ticked up to 5.5 per cent from 5.4 per cent in August.
