Grande Prairie Regional Hospital lab set to close to walk-in patients

Starting this December, the lab at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital will only be available for emergency, inpatient and ambulatory patients. Everyone else will have to use external labs.

Starting December 5th, walk-in patients who arrive at the hospital lab will be re-directed to a nearby community lab site, while online booking will not make any date after December 5th accessible. Alberta Health Services says the move is tied to the overall transition of community lab services from Alberta Precision Laboratories to DynaLIFE Medical Laboratories.

However, AHS says hospital based labs will continue to serve immunocompromised patients by physician or clinic referral only.
