Rotary clubs kick off 2022 Cars for Christmas Lottery

For the 23rd year, the Cars for Christmas Lottery has returned to the Grande Prairie region, with a total of $419,000 worth of prizes up for grabs, as well as a 50/50 draw for more than a quarter of a million dollars.

The number of community groups receiving funds from the ticket sales remains a dozen in 2022, with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Grande Prairie & Area, East Smoky Minor Hockey Association, GPPSD Education Foundation, Grande Prairie Minor Baseball Association, Swan City FC, Tiny Hands of Hope, Grande Prairie Gymnastics, Rotaract Club of Grande Prairie, Swan City Rotary Club, Rotary Club of Grande Prairie, After Five, Rotary Club of Grande Prairie, Sunrise Rotary Club of Grande Prairie all benefitting.

Swan City Rotary Club Lottery Director Pamela Nordin says the ability to help such a large group of non-profit organizations across the community is vital to the success of many involved.

“Some of them are unable to fundraise in this way and we love to partner with them because their message is really strong in the community, to support and to work alongside them.”

Nordin adds they have a bit of an unofficial theme for the 2022 Cars for Christmas lottery, as she knows the struggle for many organizations and families are feeling across the community. However, she says community care, and collective care, are both messages they’re hoping to expand.

“I don’t have children growing up in this community because my daughter is older… but, it doesn’t matter, because their are kids in this community that can’t do some of the things our partner are allowing them to do. That is what collective is, it’s for the collective good,” she says.

“That is very satisfying and it makes the hard work worth it, because you know this money is going right into the community, and into hands that really need it.”

You can find more information and buy tickets for the lottery on the Cars for Christmas website.
