Province funds two Peace country restorative justice associations

Two restorative justice programs in the Peace country have gotten funding from the provincial government. The Fairview and Area Well Community Action Association and the Peace River Region Restorative Justice Association have each received $20,000 to continue their work helping victims, offenders and the community come to meaningful resolutions without having to go to court.

The Fairview group will be using their funds to continue their work in the town, while in Peace River they will be putting together a formal referral process with the local RCMP and corrections. They’ll also be training volunteer facilitators.

Funding is available each year through the Alberta Community Restorative Justice program for incorporated non-profit and volunteer organizations, coalitions, local community groups, Indigenous organizations and youth justice committees sanctioned by the province. A total of $360,000 in grants were given out this year.
