The Alberta Government has announced funds for a Community Futures startup business incubator in Grande Prairie. Minister Deron Bilous says $400,000 will be put into the project over the next two years.
“We know that 95 per cent of Alberta’s businesses are small businesses. They drive our economy. They are the backbone to the economy. We want to provide supports to make these business successful and to grow.”
Executive Director for Community Futures Holly Sorgen says this will benefit many in the community. She adds that there has been some changes in the new business trend during the economic downturn.
“A lot of people actually think and say that, in an economic downturn, people may shy away from [startups]. It’s actually quite the opposite. We have seen an astronomical growth in the number of clients we are seeing.”
Sorgeson says they opened to the doors to the incubator on February 1st and are basically full with clients already.
The spaces are located in 214 place downtown.
