Canada Day Parade
Celebrations kick-start with the return of the Canada Day parade beginning at 1 p.m.
The parade travels from 108 Avenue in Hillside and ends at the Leisure Centre parking lot at 2:30 p.m. See the Canada Day parade map here.
Local businesses and organizations are encouraged to submit a Parade Entry Application and join the festivities.
Please note: parade fees have been waived for 2022. Parade entries have closed.
Muskoseepi Park Activities
Muskoseepi Park will be booming with the following activities starting at 2:30 p.m.:
Bouncy castles
Food trucks
Carnival rides
Carnival-themed games
Live entertainment at the amphitheater – see lineup below
Live on location from 2DayFM
The Grande Prairie Outdoor Pool is open from noon to 10 p.m. for free drop-in swimming.
Live Entertainment Lineup
Performances begin at 3:45 p.m. from the amphitheatre in Muskoseepi Park. This year’s live music will feature a diverse selection of local talent including:
The Legendary Life of Tom Petty featuring Clayton Bellamy – 8:45 p.m.
JayWalker – 7:30 p.m.
Northbloods – 6:15 p.m.
Christina Rogers – 5:30 p.m.
McKindred – 4:45 p.m.
Brent Boivin – 4:15 p.m.
Mandee Rae – 3:45 p.m.
Free Outdoor Pool Entry and Transit on Canada Day
The City is providing free access to the Grande Prairie Outdoor Pool and free transit on Friday, July 1 in conjunction with its Canada Day celebrations.
Transit runs on Friday, July 1 on its statutory holiday hours schedule from 8:46 a.m. to 6:15 p.m.
The outdoor pool is open from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Canada Day in the following time slots for public swimming:
12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The outdoor pool is drop-in only and it is recommended to come to the pool at the beginning of a new time slot as spaces are limited.
Fireworks
To cap off the evening, the City returns to its traditional, in-person main fireworks display setting off at 11:30 p.m. from the reservoir at Muskoseepi Park to finish the celebrations with a bang.
The City of Grande Prairie is thrilled to host another year of Canada Day activities brought to you by the Government of Canada.
Canada Day Tips and Reminders
Here are a few quick reminders to make Canada Day celebrations as enjoyable as possible for everyone:
Bring a mat, blanket or other type of parade seating that is comfortable for sitting but not obtrusive for other parade viewers
Stay back on the sidewalk and do not run into the street during the parade
No public washrooms are available along the parade route
There is no parking available in Muskoseepi Park
Ernie Radbourne Pavilion washrooms will be available from noon to 5 p.m.
Portable toilets are located around the park until the end of the event
Small strollers are recommended as sidewalk space will be limited
Dress appropriate for weather conditions
No alcohol is permitted during any Canada Day celebrations
No pets are allowed during the fireworks, parade or celebrations as the loud noise and large crowds may cause stress to the animals
Dispose of garbage and recycling in appropriate receptacles and avoid littering to keep the neighbourhood clean
Be courteous and respectful in sharing the space with other attendees
