Northern Alberta MLAs named to NDP cabinet

Premier Rachel Notley’s newly announced cabinet will have some rural representation in the form of Dunvegan-Central-Peace-Notley MLA Marg McCuaig-Boyd and Whitecourt- Ste. Anne MLA Oneil Carlier.

McCuaig Boyd, who hails from Notley’s hometown of Fairview, has been handed the energy portfolio. She will be dealing with oil patch executives and industry leaders in the province, as well as spear-heading Notley’s promised royalty review. McCuaig-Boyd says she will be open and transparent with industry leaders, and that the review is a top priority. It is not yet clear when the review will begin.

McCuaig-Boyd has more than 20 years experience as a teacher and administration with the Peace River School Division, and more recently served as Vice President for the Grande Prairie Regional College Fairview Campus.

Meanwhile Carlier has been name Minister of Agriculture and Minister of Forestry. He has spent two decades working as a geotechnical technician for Agriculture Canada, and has been a part of several large projects including the Bassano Dam rehabilitation.
