Clairmont shooting suspect was former Halliburton employee

More details on last night’s shooting incident at Halliburton has surfaced.

Police responded to the facility in Clairmont around 7:50 p.m. after reports than a man had entered the site and was shooting a rifle.

Because authorities didn’t know where he was, nearby businesses were put under lock down.

At 11:15, a Halliburton employee made contact with the suspect on a cell phone, and police were able to start negotiations.

Just half an hour later the suspect peacefully surrendered, and two employees who had been hiding were evacuated.

It’s believed the suspect, a 58 year old from Grande Prairie, was a former employee and did not know anyone was inside.

He’s now facing a number of firearms-related charges, with a bail hearing set for later today.

A hand gun and assault style rifle were found at the scene, along with broken windows and a broken water line, seemingly from gun fire.

No injuries have been reported.
