UPDATE: Air Canada, WestJet further reduce Grande Prairie flight schedule

UPDATE: The Grande Prairie Airport says both WestJet and Air Canada will only offer a handful of flights to Grande Prairie moving forward.

Between May 5th and June 4th, Air Canada will have one flight arriving from Calgary Monday/Wednesday/Friday at 4 p.m. and departing to Calgary at 4:25 p.m. WestJet will have one flight arriving from Calgary Monday/Wednesday/Friday/Sunday at 4 p.m. and departing for Calgary at 4:30 p.m.

The terminal will only be open to the public on those days from 2:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. A non-medical face mask or covering is also required for any air travel.

“It is incumbent upon our airport to do our part in reducing the spread of COVID-19 in our region,” says Grande Prairie Airport CEO Brian Grant. “We recognize our responsibilities to provide essential service to the region and as such the airport continues to remain open as usual 24 hours per day 7 days per week to all other users.”

Neither airline is offering direct flights from Edmonton.

There will be no Westjet flights from Edmonton to Grande Prairie until at least the first week of June. The airline says the route will be grounded from May 5th through June 4th.

WestJet says it is removing roughly 4,000 weekly flights or 600 daily flights from May 5th through June 4th to address significantly reduced demand.

“The overall demand for travel remains fluid during this ongoing pandemic and we continue to evaluate further reductions.”

Anyone with travel during that time will be notified with their options.
