Man sentenced to four years in Smith, Southview drug busts

A man has been sentenced to four years in jail for his role in two drug busts in 2017. Youssef Hassan was given the sentence in a Grande Prairie courtroom on November 15th for possession for the purpose of trafficking.

He was given 30 days credit but will serve the rest of his time in a federal institution. He was also given a 10-year firearms ban.

Hassan was arrested in May 2017 after RCMP from Grande Prairie and Peace River and Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams searched apartments in the Smith and Southview neighbourhoods.

During the searches, 327 fentanyl pills were seized, along with nearly 27 grams of crack cocaine, 18 grams of marijuana, four grams of crystal meth, and at least $4,400 in cash.

Three others were arrested in the case but charges against them have been withdrawn.
