Neighbourhood operated ice surfaces possible in county

A new program in the county will allow for people to make outdoor ice surface in their community. The Neighbourhood Ice Surface Program will now let municipal reserve land be used but there are a few steps to be taken before it can happen.

An application form needs to be completed and at least four volunteers from their neighbourhood need to be named that will install, maintain and then take down the ice. There must also be some before and post inspection of the area.

These are ice surfaces and not outdoor rinks. Ice surfaces are any temporary, outdoor natural ice surface set up for the winter season on a Municipal Reserve Greenspace within a neighbourhood or subdivision in the County. An outdoor rink would have high boards and be suitable for hockey play. It would also be a permanent facility.

County Reeve Leanne Beaupre says they are working to make recreation more accessible and enhance the quality of life for the residents.
