Officer assaulted by drunk driving suspect

UPDATE: A previous version of this article said the assault happened around 3 a.m. Saturday. RCMP now says the incident involving a male officer happened early Friday morning.

An RCMP officer was assaulted by a suspected impaired driver in Grande Prairie early Friday morning. Around 3 a.m., the Police Dog Services member was called to the area of 108th Avenue and 94th Street.

When they pulled over a purple Chrysler Neon matching the description from a complaint of a drunk driver, a man and a woman got out. There was an altercation and the duo fled on foot.

The officer was taken to hospital and treated for non life threatening injuries.

The male is described as 6’2″, 230 lbs, clean shaven with short, trimmed hair. He was wearing a grey tank top and baggy jeans at the time. The female he was with is described as in her late twenties, with a medium build and dirty blonde hair. She was wearing a darker coloured jacket.

Anyone who might be able to identify them, or has any information about this assault is asked to contact RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
