UPDATE: The evacuation order is now expanded to everyone in Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation and Sandy Bay. All residents and vistors north of Highway 43 and east Youngs Point Road, including Cozy Cove and Boyd’s Lakeshore Properties is asked to leave immediately.
All residents of Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation are being evacuated due to an out-of-control wildfire nearby.
The administration says families should head to the emergency muster point of Valleyview Memorial Hall to register for accommodations. Anyone requiring transportation there should contact CAO Dion Napio at 780-340-3466.
Students from Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation at school in Valleyview will be bussed to the Valleyview Agriplex at 4202 40th Avenue, which is where they can be picked up.
Highway 43 remains closed in both directions between Range Road 230 and 235. Drivers can detour using Township Road 700.
