Grande Prairie Forest Area fire advisory lifted

The recent rain is providing some relief when it comes to wildfires in our region. The danger in the Grande Prairie Forest Area has dropped to low and the fire advisory has been lifted.

A fire advisory remains for the City of Grande Prairie, and a fire restriction is in effect for the County of Grande Prairie. The restriction means the use of wood campfires on public land is prohibited, while wood campfires are allowed inside provincial campgrounds and private property.

Smoke is still drifting into the area from wildfires burning in British Columbia, with the Air Quality Health Index remaining low for the past day. Since the beginning of wildfire season on March 1st, there have been 70 wildfires in the Grande Prairie Forest Area burning nearly 98 hectares.
