Specialty equipment used to extract animals following cattle trailer rollover

A number of animals were killed after a rollover involving a double decker cattle transport trailer on Thursday.

Crews from the County of Grande Prairie Regional Fire Service, Grande Prairie RCMP and other organizations were called to the scene near Range Road 74 north of Highway 59 around 1 p.m., and when they arrived, found the cattle liner with 70 cattle trapped inside.

Specialty equipment and crews from the La Glace fire station were brought in, and a majority of the animals, 61 in all, were extracted.

The driver of the trailer was uninjured and an investigation into the rollover is ongoing.
