Grande Prairie to mark Alberta Day with free swimming, skating, BBQ

Alberta Day will be celebrated in Grande Prairie with a day of free activities. The province’s newly established non-statutory holiday is scheduled for September 1st, but the events will be held locally on the 3rd, which is a Saturday.

A free community barbecue will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. at Bonnetts Energy Centre, followed by a free skate and autograph signing with the Grande Prairie Storm from 3 to 6 p.m. The Eastlink Centre will be offering free public swimming from 8 to 10 a.m., 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. by preregistration only.

The September 1st date was chosen to commemorate the day Alberta became a province, September 1, 1905.
