Grande Prairie Forest Area wildfire danger now very high

The wildfire danger for the Grande Prairie Forest Area has increased to very high, as hot temperatures continue. Alberta Wildfire says there are currently two active wildfires in the region.

One is considered under control at 76 hectares, with thermal scans showing hotspots. The other is under control at half a hectare and is being monitored for hotspots as the ground in the area is very dry with extreme wildfire danger indicators.

Both blazes were caused by lightning. Since the beginning of wildfire season on March 1st, there have been 44 wildfires burning nearly 96 hectares in the Grande Prairie Forest Area.
