“Sundays In The Park” returns this August

Starting August 7th, the City of Grande Prairie will be hosting a series of free events at Muskoseepi Park.

“Sundays In The Park”, will include the Western Dance with Peace Country Western Dance on August 7th, Yoga with Oranj Fitness on August 21st, and Soapstone Carving with the Centre for Creative Arts on August 28th.

Event and Volunteer Coordinator with the City of Grande Prairie Stacey Batt says the municipality is thrilled to start bringing back people into the park with a wide variety of events planned.

“This year is really focused on community building any way we can, for example, our Canada Day event was larger than we have done in a long time, and that’s really what we are aiming for with all of our events this year,” she says.

“We wanted to work with as large a variety of community groups as possible to offer these activities to try and reach the interest of as many residents as possible.”

Batt says coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic, residents have made it clear that having the chance to gather with other members of the community is a top priority. She’s hopeful the Sundays In the Park series will help rekindle the enjoyment people have when it comes to the city’s green spaces.

“After a couple of years of not being to have these activities where you are spending time with other people, whether it’s strangers or friends in these large groups, that’s what everyone has been looking for, and that’s what we’ve been trying to offer,” she says.

“We just want people to come and enjoy Muskoseepi Park, enjoy the last couple of months of summer.”

All three events are free, and you can find more information on the City of Grande Prairie website.
