The County of Grande Prairie Regional Fire Services has issued a fire advisory for the entire County of Grande Prairie, along with the towns of Beaverlodge, Sexsmith and Wembley.
Fire officials say the hot, dry conditions has made it dangerous for all types of burning, prompting the advisory to be put in place. Residents who have existing fire permits are advised not to burn until the conditions improve, specifically, until we get rain in the area.
Burning is not permitted when winds reach, or are forecasted to reach, 12 kilometres an hour or higher. Residents who must burn are being urged to follow all permit guidelines and safe burning practices, including always remaining on site until burning is complete.
