City reminding residents about Elm Tree pruning ban

The City of Grande Prairie is reminding residents that pruning Elm Trees across the municipality is still prohibited until October 1st to prevent the spread of Dutch elm disease.

The province-wide ban is put in place yearly due to the elm bark beetles being attracted to the smell of freshly cut elm wood, so pruning is banned from taking place during the summer months when the beetles are flying.

If residents have an elm tree in their yard, they’re being asked to call City Parks Operations at 311 to arrange to have it pruned during the winter months.

You can find more information on Dutch Elm Disease on the City of Grande Prairie website.
