Fire advisory in effect in Grande Prairie Forest Area

With recent dry and windy conditions, a fire advisory is now in effect as the wildfire danger level in the Grande Prairie Forest Area has been upgraded from moderate to high.

Any burning other than a campfire without a permit is not allowed at this time. Safe wood campfires, backyard fire pits, portable propane fire pits, gas or propane stoves and barbecues, and catalytic or infrared-style heaters can still be used.

Since the start of the wildfire season, the Grande Prairie Forest Area has recorded 29 wildfires and a total of 8.87 hectares of land has burned. All of those wildfires have been extinguished, according to Alberta Wildfire officials.

The fire advisory will remain in effect until conditions improve. Call 310-FIRE (3473) if you spot smoke or a fire in the Grande Prairie Forest Area.
