It’s Josh with the 2day FM Summer Cruiser, powered by Standard Auto Glass, supported by the Canadian Motorcycle Tourism Association, Frontier Eatery & Saloon, Eastlink Mobile, and Ken Sargent GMC Buick. This week was full of fun events, I can’t wait to show you where I was this week.
I started my week going to Frontier College Reading Tents located in Avondale Park. As soon as I got there I was greeted by the Frontier College Reading volunteers. This event was to encourage kids to read during the summer. There were reading activities and at the end, you got to take a book home. Also to top it all off Mitchelle was there with Odin, her therapy dog.
After petting and falling in love with Odin, I made my way to the grand opening of the crystal lake bike skill park. They had a ribbon cutting and everything, what a big thing for Grande Prairie.
after that, I headed to the market on the hillside. This market happens every Thursday from 11:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. They were getting ready for Christmas in July on the 16. I helped by wrapping the boxes for the tickets and presents for Santa. Also, the gnome on the bench scavenger hunt was still taking place. What a great way to spend your weekend.
On July 15 Grandecon made its debut. It was like nothing I have seen before, everywhere you looked there was always something to see. I can’t wait for next year’s Gandecon.
After Grandecon I cruised out to Teepee creek to the Teepee Creek Stampede. This was probably the biggest stampede I have been at. 4 days filled with rodeos and cowboy hats. wow, what an amazing event.
July 16 was Christmas in July, in Veterans Memorial Gardens. Santa was there on his six-seater trike, and vendors were there to help you with the early Christmas shopping. In the morning they had a pancake breakfast, and Santa loved it. This was also the last day for the Gnome on the Bench Scavenger Hunt. Winners were awarded up to $7,000 in prizes.
After talking to Santa, boy was that man jolly. I went to Bandage Paws where they were holding an adoption event in the Telus parking lot. The parking lot was filled with cute dogs and cats. There was stuff you could buy like water bowls and cat litter boxes for $1 donation and up.
After I was all “puppy”ed out I went to the 60th anniversary of the outdoor pool. Admission was free and by donation, all the staff dressed up in a 60s theme. It was such a fun atmosphere at the outdoor pool. If I had my swimming shorts on I would have jumped in the pool.
I went into the grandecon again. As soon as I walked in I saw all the amazing costumes. It was a sight for sore eyes, seeing all the creativity in Grande Prairie was amazing. Thank you to everyone who dressed up.
July 17 was neverly the end of my week, but it went out with a bang. I went on down to the South Peace Centennial Museum. Where Pioneer days were being held. To see all the history and see what our ancestors went through was remarkable. If you have not been to Pioneer Day in Beaverlodge, next year I recommend going.
To end my day I made my way to the Rrebel Academy, where they were hosting kitten yoga. 19 adorable kittens showed up, as we hit the downward dog they were the escaping kittens. between catching the kittens and doing yoga it was a blast. Thanks to Mitchelle we had a great turnout.
