Second week of horse racing season starts tomorrow at Evergreen Park

The second weekend of horse racing season at Evergreen Park starts on Saturday, as the road to the 2022 Bank of America Challenge Championships at Horseshoe in Indianapolis for Canadian horses kicks off.

The John Deere Juvenile Challenge Trials are set for Sunday. The finals for that are slated for August at Evergreen Park, with a $30,000 purse to be awarded. There are three races for that event taking place. The first is a 350-yard race and five quarter horses are taking part, including Professor Gee, owned by local Jerry Stojan.

Five horses will be in the second race, including Stojan’s Nobile Rearing, who is the favourite to win the race. The third race is the GP Distance Stakes for $10,000 in prize money over 770 yards.

All races start at 1:15 p.m. Entry is free for anyone to attend. The first 200 people through the gates on Sunday will get a free hot dog and pop, plus a chance to win a $500 travel voucher from Marlin Travel.
