County hands out $740,000 in assistance grants

Indoor ice arenas in Beaverlodge, Clairmont, Hythe, LaGlace, Sexsmith, and Wembley are are receiving grants worth more than $37,000 each from the County of Grande Prairie. In total, the county is spending $560,000 on 29 different sport, recreation, and cultural facilities. Several curling rinks and community halls will also benefit from those grants.

Meanwhile $179,000 in operating assistance grants is being divvied up amongst 49 different non-profit organizations that provide recreation and cultural services, like the Beaverlodge Boys and Girls Camp Society, the Hythe Athletic Association, and the Sexsmith Wellness coalition.

In order to receive operating assistance grants, volunteer groups must be open to County residents, provide proof of volunteerism and fundraising, and achieve identified goals.
