County-wide fire ban in effect

The County of Grande Prairie has now issued a fire ban for all outdoor fires, which also includes the towns of Beaverlodge, Sexsmith, Wembley and the Village of Hythe.

The ban covers recreational fire pits, burn barrels, fireworks, and charcoal barbecues. Any burn permits have been revoked, and no new ones will be issued. Propane appliances like barbecues are still allowed.

County Fire Marshall Ken Atamanchuk also recommends that ATVs and dirt bikes also not be used, as they can accidentally start a spark. Anyone who violates the ban could face a $5,000 fine and charges.
