City issues fire ban

The city of Grande Prairie is following the province’s lead in issuing a fire ban for all open burning within city limits. Any recreational open burning, such as back yard or public park fire pits are included in the ban.

Any permits issued have also been suspended for the duration of the ban. Residents may still use propane fire pits and gas or propane barbecues.

Anyone who has had a fire recently is asked to make sure the ashes have been extinguished properly. The wildfire hazard in the Grande Prairie wildfire management area is currently very high, as temperatures continue to reach 25 degrees or more daily without any rain.
