Extensive fire damage to home in Avondale

The residents of a home in Avondale woke up around 3:15 a.m. this morning to the smell of smoke. They soon found that the detached garage next to their house was fully engulfed in flames which had spread to the house.

The people home were able to get out safely, and they live only blocks away from the Salmond Fire Hall, the Grande Prairie Fire Department was there within minutes.

Platoon Chief Steve Larsen says the home suffered extensive damage but firefighters were able to stop it from spreading to any nearby buildings. the cause of the fire is still under investigation, but if anyone has any information they’re encouraged to contact the fire department.

Grande Prairie residents are reminded to protect their families by making sure they have a working smoke detector.
