As of April city crews have started working on improvements to South Bear Creek Park, which came under the city’s management back in November.
There are more than a million dollars in improvements to the park planned for this year. Recreation and Sport Supervisor Kirsten Maher says there is also a lot of focus on maintenance of the many ball diamonds in and around the park.
“On average there’s about 4000 people that recreate in South Bear Creek so on a daily basis we are maintaining 17 diamonds within the park. We’re making sure the playing surfaces are safe, doing repairs to fences and dugouts, and just general upkeep.”
Maher says her focus is on main projects like refurbishing Wee Links by replacing all greens and tee boxes, making the South Bear Creek pavilion an all year round facility, and adding a new ball diamond to the park.
