Up to 185,000 oilfield-related jobs could be lost in 2015

As many as 185,000 jobs directly and indirectly tied to Canada’s oil and gas industry could be lost as budgets are tightened.

A report by a division of Calgary-based Enform says Alberta would be hardest hit, with roughly 58,000 people in oil and gas extraction and related construction, and another 21,000 in support services potentially impacted. Another 60,000 could be lost across the rest of the country.

In total, it looks like a quarter of the jobs in some way connected to the industry could be gone as we head into 2016.
