Fire in Grande Plaza Condos suite

A fire broke out in a suite at Grande Plaza Condos Sunday setting off the building’s fire alarm system. Many residents evacuated, but some stayed inside, prompting the fire department to urge people to get out of a building whenever an alarm goes off.

Fortunately, the sprinkler system went off on the first floor and in the suite where the fire broke out. The water was able to control the fire and limit damage to the suite. No one was home at the time.

Platoon Chief Tony Lutzmann argues this call shows the effectiveness of having a working fire alarm and sprinkler system.

“Had a sprinkler system not been in place and in working order, a fire of this nature would have quickly spread.”

An investigation into the cause of the fire is still underway. The cost of the damage is unknown.
