Changes made to Olympic trials qualifying process

Curling Canada is expanding the final step of qualification for the Tim Horton’s Roar of the Rings Olympic qualifier. The organization is looking to earn Canada and unprecedented repeat of gold medal men’s and women’s performances at the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics.

In order to ensure the best of the best are competing at the Olympics qualifiers, teams will now be ranked based on their performances and consistency over the two years leading up to the 2017 event.

Additionally, the winners of the Scotties Tournament of Hearts and Tim Horton’s Brier in both 2016 and 2017 will be immediately qualified for Roar of the Rings, providing they also make the podium at world’s in the same year.

The first team to be qualified will be decided here in Grande Prairie this December, as winner of the Home Hardware Canada Cup automatically qualifies. The two top teams from the Roar of the Rings pre-trials will also gain direct entry.
