60th COVID-19 related death reported in Grande Prairie

Another COVID-19 related death was reported in the City of Grande Prairie over the weekend. It’s the 60th death in the municipality since the pandemic began, and among 39 reported across the province over the last three days.

95 new and 88 cases of the virus were also identified in the city over the last 72 hours, pushing the active case count to 468. In the County of Grande Prairie, 38 new and 27 recovered cases of COVID-19 were also discovered over the weekend. There are now 186 active cases in the region.

Across Alberta, 1,542 people remain in hospital due to COVID-19, with 118 requiring the ICU. Province-wide 4,618 new cases of COVID-19 were reported over the last three days from 14,765 tests for a positivity rate of 31.2.

As of Sunday, 72.1 per cent of the population of Grande Prairie aged 12 and up have received at least two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine and 65.5 per cent of those five and up. In the east County of Grande Prairie, 70.9 per cent of residents 12 and older are considered fully vaccinated, as well as 63.7 per cent aged five and older. In the west County, numbers drop to 65.9 per cent of those 12 and up and 59.3 per cent for those five and up.
