59th COVID-19 death reported in Grande Prairie

Another COVID-19 death has been reported in the City of Grande Prairie. It’s the 59th virus-related death in the municipality.

There were two COVID-19 deaths reported in the AHS North zone on January 31st. One was a woman in her 90s and and a man in his 80s. Both cases involved pre-existing conditions.

42 new and 28 cases of COVID-19 were also discovered in the city over the last 24 hours, pushing the active case count to 459. In the County of Grande Prairie, 20 new and seven recovered cases of the virus were identified on Wednesday. There are now 183 active cases in the region.

Across Alberta, 2,370 new cases of COVID-19 were reported on Wednesday from 7,338 tests for a positivity rate of 32.2 per cent. Province-wide 1,584 people are hospitalized due to COVID-19, with 112 requiring the ICU.

The data released by the province of Alberta does not include rapid test results, with PCR testing focusing primarily on individuals who may be at higher risk of severe COVID-19 outcomes, or those who work in high-risk settings.
