Reel Shorts Film Festival submission deadline January 31

January 31st is the deadline for Peace Region filmmakers to submit their work to the 15th annual Reel Shorts Film Festival. Films are required to be between two and 31 minutes long and must be completed on January 1st, 2020, or later.

The festival shows more than 80 short films per year, featuring work from filmmakers all over the world. Filmmakers will not have to pay a submission fee and are paid screening fees for their films. $300 cash awards go to the filmmakers who win awards, as selected by a group of judges.

The 2020 festival was postponed due to COVID-19 restrictions. More than 600 people had signed up to watch the 2021 festival, including 123 teachers from 36 schools who shared with their classes one or more of the six-film packages programmed for Grade 1-12 students.

The Reel Shorts Film Festival is a qualifying festival for the Canadian Screen Awards presented by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television. The festival is slated to run from April 26th to May 1st in-person at Grande Prairie Live Theatre. The festival is also taking place online from May 2nd to May 8th.
