Extreme cold warning issued for Grande Prairie

Another extreme cold warning has been issued for Grande Prairie, as brutally cold wind chill values will blanket the region on Tuesday night into Wednesday. Environment Canada says Extreme cold wind chill values near -40 are expected to develop through the overnight period.

Extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frostbite and hypothermia. Residents are urged to cover up as frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill. Additionally, Environment Canada urges that if it is too cold for you to be outside, you should take the same precautions with your pets.

The national meteorological service says the temperatures will begin to slide back down to more seasonal averages by Wednesday afternoon.
