The City of Grande Prairie is asking for more time to properly complete snow removal due to heavy snowfall recently. More than 10 centimetres of snow has fallen in Grande Prairie since New Year’s Day, according to Environment Canada.
The neighbourhoods being worked on as of Friday are Arbour Hills, Copperwood, Crystal Lake Estates, Crystal Ridge, Gateway, Lakeland, Northridge, and Royal Oaks. Crews are actively plowing and sanding all priority roads.
Another two-week round of residential snow removal begins on January 10th in the city, following the completion of the current round of snow removal, which started December 27th.
The City of Grande Prairie has acknowledged that they have received a high volume of service requests regarding snow removal. Requests can be made to the city through the Access GP Portal. The city says that more than 4,500 truckloads of snow have been removed from roads since December.
A parking ban on all permanent snow routes in the city is in effect from Monday to Friday between the hours of 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
In the County, crews will begin work on Saturday in Clairmont starting from 100 Avenue to 116 Avenue. Following the completion of that area, crews will move on to Whispering Ridge, Westlake Estates, Wedgewood, Taylor Estates, and Maple Ridge neighbourhoods.
A parking ban is in place in the county when the digital “No Parking” signs at the entrance to these areas are visible, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
