Western Alberta unemployment rate drops to 6.4 per cent in December

For the third straight month, the Western Alberta unemployment rate has dropped, as it now sits at 6.4 per cent for December. That’s down from 6.7 per cent in November. In December of 2020, it was over two percentage points higher (9.7 per cent)

The region that houses Grande Prairie posted the second-lowest unemployment rate in the province, as only Edmonton had a lower rate at 6.1 per cent.

Alberta overall saw its seasonally adjusted unemployment drop from 7.6 per cent to 7.3 per cent over the last month. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rates in the province were as high as 11.1 per cent in December of 2020.
