Housing starts again lagging behind 2014 numbers

Grande Prairie has seen just over half of the single family home starts it had at this point last year. There were only three last month, compared to nine last April, bringing the year-to-date total to 29, when they were at 55 a year ago.

The only saving grace has been multiple family homes, which, at 20, is ten times what was seen in the first five months of 2014. Despite that, the pace is starting to lag behind last year’s again, with 49 housing starts so far this year, behind last year’s 57.

Alberta-wide, numbers are up, thanks to more multi-family homes started in the first three months of the year.
