Local hopes to spread holiday cheer

Bernardo Ao Ieong is teaming up with other residents and companies of Grande Prairie to provide small gifts for people in need during the holiday season.

Ieong, a Sales Consultant at Sean Sargent Toyota, says that he’s not looking for recognition and he doesn’t have a name for this little event.

“This marks my third year doing this. It’s been a really tough year for everyone again and I know some people are struggling. I just want to help and spread Christmas cheer,” he says.

Ieong says that what started as something small a few years ago continues to grow. Last year, for instance, he and everyone else involved provided 33 gift cards to the community. He says there is still time to get involved if you would like to help.

“Right now, we only have 16 gift cards to hand out. Things have been tough this year and I feel there are more people in need than there were last year. If anyone would like to help they can comment on my post in the Grande Prairie group on Facebook, or reach out to me there,” Ieong says.

Ieong is glad to be part of such a great community that genuinely cares about people.

“It definitely means a lot and I know I’m just a very small part of it, doing something like this every year to help out,” he explains. “I always try and get involved where I can.”
