More than $100,000 worth of items seized at Grande Cache Institution

More than $100,000 worth of unauthorized items were seized as part of an investigation that dates back to December 9th at Grande Cache Institution.

The items seized include shatter, which is cannabis concentrate, SIM cards, cell phones, and tobacco. The total estimated value of the items is $133,100. The correctional facility credits staff members’ vigilance as a big reason for the seizure.

The Correctional Service of Canada uses many tools to prevent drugs from entering its institutions. These tools include ion scanners and drug-detector dogs to search buildings, personal property, inmates, and visitors.

The police have been notified of the seizure and are investigating the matter. The medium-security facility in Grande Cache houses 243 inmates.
