New equipment delivered to QEII NICU

Five months after $23,000 were raised during the 2DayFM Cares for Kids Radiothon, the QEII Hospital Foundation and the Neonatal Unit at the QEII Hospital have their hands on a brand new, state of the art neonatal incubator.

Unit Manager Diane Sweetman says the staff are grateful of any opportunity to advance the technology available to them in the NICU.

“We don’t always have the funds internally to do that so we’re really appreciative of the community and 2dayFM for raising the money to give us a brand new incubator long before we probably would have had one any other way.”

The incubator is not quite ready to be used. Sweetman says at the moment they are waiting for a technician from the company to make sure the unit is ready for use.

“When we’ve had the go ahead we’ll bring it up to the unit and we will do some in servicing for the staff just because the equipment is new to make sure they know how to use it efficiently, and then we’re ready to go.”

Sweetman says she hopes it will be ready to go by the end of the month.
