The Gursikh Missionary Society of Grande Prairie is hoping to give back to the community it’s been a part of since 1984 in a big way. It’s hoping to raise $150,000 over the next three years to sponsor a trauma room at the new regional hospital. Member Shaminder Minhas has worked in pediatrics at the QEII Hospital for nearly 30 years, and argues it’s a worthwhile cause.
“Our first priority is the hospital. Whenever somebody gets hurt, this is the first priority; we have to take them there, and if we can get a good facility here and help them establish a good facility.”
The room would be named in honour of the first Sikh guru, Guru Nanak Devi Ji. He was known as a philosophy and guider, who travelled far to teach humanity.
“If God’s given you a chance to do something, that is the biggest reward for you. Our goal is very high, but not impossible.”
The society will be holding fundraisers over the next three years.
