Eastlink Centre should focus less on memberships: review

The operational review of the Eastlink Centre is complete, and city councillors will hear the findings Tuesday. A $1.75 million dollar deficit for the facility was discovered last fall, and later estimates placed that number closer to $3 million.

Health Systems Group has found several areas where changes could be made, including adding card access turnstiles at the entrance to the aquatics change rooms and before the gym and running track. The firm notes that the size and design of the centre creates operational challenges, and impacts how many staff are needed.

It sees the greatest potential for growth in focusing on programs and services, not memberships. Community Living Director Garry Roth says some of the group’s recommendations are already being put into place.
