Prentice reverses cuts to charitable donation tax benefit

Premier Jim Prentice has cancelled plans to reduce the province’s charitable donation tax benefit.

The cut from 21 per cent to 12.75 was introduced in last month’s budget, as a way to save roughly $90 million a year, but it was heavily criticized.

Prentice has called the move a mistake, and more than simply unpopular.

He maintains that this won’t affect the government’s timeline to balance the budget, and that he won’t be changing his mind on anything else in the fiscal plan.
