CN Rail invests $100 million in Northern Alberta

CN Rail is investing $100 million in northern Alberta, as part of a $500 million plan to improve investments in Western Alberta.

Those funds earmarked for Peace River region branch lines will go towards upgrades and safety improvements like heavier rail, new ties, and crushed rock ballast.

CN President and CEO Claude Mongeau says the company wants to make sure its network is ready for more freight moving through the area, as well as make sure it’s as safe as possible.

Freight volumes in Alberta, Manitoba have increased by more than 50 per cent over the past five years.
