Late French immersion now offered at École St. Gerard

The Grande Prairie Catholic School District will start offering late entry French immersion this fall. Superintendent Karl Germann says they’ve debated adding the program for years, and now is the right time.

Students who missed the Kindergarten entry point will have the option to start at grade five at École St. Gerard. The school is the only single track K to 9 french immersion school in the region.

Classes will be taught by teacher Janine Gummesen, who is herself the product of a late french immersion program. Parents interested in more information can attend a meeting at the school on April 30th.

GP Public started a similar program at Ecole Montrose last year, and has seen success so far.
