GPRC cancels Transitional Vocational Program

This year’s graduating class of GPRC’s Transitional Vocational Program will be its last.

The program at Fairview campus has been around since 1969, helping 20 adults with disabilities learn independent living and job skills.

The Alberta Union of Provincial Employees says 95 per cent of graduates were able find employment in the first year, prompting Vice president Glen Scott to call the closure a tragedy.

Grande Prairie Regional College is working to cut $5.2 million from its budget over the next two years, but Scott says vulnerable people shouldn’t be abandoned in the process.
