Small wildfire sparked northeast of Valleyview

The first wildfire of the season has been sparked in the Grande Prairie Management Area.

So far the blaze between Valleyview and High Prairie has burned less than an acre, but is considered out of control at this point.

Not far away is a smaller fire in the Slave Lake region that is being held.

So far this wildfire season there have been 49 fires in the province that have burned 100 hectares of land.

There are eight others that are active in Alberta, all considered under control.

The GP region is still under a fire advisory with a high wildfire hazard.
